This is a discussion post. The post is an expression of the writer’s own position.
Lone Haugaard announces in Nordjyske that she is running for the city council. Well!
I think it is good that someone wants to join the work of making our whole municipality stick together – also following 1 January 2026.
And then there is politics on the table this time in the post on Nordjyske. I would like to acknowledge that. Politics is far preferable to embarrassing personal attacks.
Lone Haugaard and Venstre will merge the youth programs. And at the risk of saying “we’ve tried that”, so I say it.
Following a model from our twin city, Larvik, the municipality has worked on a voluntary amalgamation of youth education in the past.
It was a serious and well-intentioned attempt, but youth education wanted to be independent. And it is important that the youth programs choose voluntarily which community they want to be a part of. Youth education has done that. And I can see that they are thriving.
After all, they are self-employed
Based on the search figures and the press releases from youth education, I can see that there is almost reason to wave the flag for the great effort they make for the future of our young people.
Against this background, it is not currently the policy of the Social Democrats to work for a merger either. The Left must stand alone with that point of view. Should the youth programs voluntarily wish to merge, the municipality will naturally be a facilitator and support that planning.
In this context, it is also important to emphasize that youth education is an independent state institution, with which the municipality must of course cooperate. But they stand in their own right. Even a high school teacher knows that.
The Social Democrats will instead use their efforts to do something regarding the conditions that concern the area of the municipal authority, including ensuring that our primary school qualifies the young people to have a robust future in a youth environment of their own choosing.
