It is predicted that the discourse on submitting a right to inquiry in the DPR RI will not be realized. Taking political party elites hostage until the bitter pill of becoming the opposition is seen as factors that cause this idea to wither before it develops. This was conveyed by a political observer from Al Azhar University Indonesia, Ujang Komarudin.

For Ujang, the evaporation of the right to inquiry issue until the close of Session Period IV 2023-2024 at the DPR RI on Thursday (4/4) was not surprising. Apart from being difficult, he said that the realization of the right to inquiry was hampered by the temptation of power received by political parties outside the coalition supporting Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

“The quiet interruption yesterday from PKS, PKB and NasDem indicates, indicates, symbolically that the right to inquiry is a bargaining position. In my words, in quotation marks, it is a political pretense,” he said to Media Indonesia, Friday (5/4) .

After voting day on February 14 and the determination of the 2024 election results on March 20 2024, Ujang believes that all parties already have their own schemes and interests regarding their future and political direction. The prediction he believes is that PKB and NasDem will join the Prabowo-Gibran coalition.

According to Ujang, one of the factors inhibiting the realization of the right to inquiry is that many party elites are having problems and are being held hostage. Apart from that, he said the temptation of power was more tempting than being in opposition. “Being in the opposition is not fun. You will definitely be bullied, legal cases will be sought,” he concluded.

Even though it did not voice the right to inquiry at yesterday’s plenary meeting, PKB still maintains the hope of realizing this idea. DPR RI member from the PKB faction Luluk Nur Hamidah said there was no difficulty in fulfilling the procedural requirements for the right to inquiry as mandated by the Law on the MPR, DPR, DPRD and DPD (MD3).

The requirement in question is a minimum of 25 members of parliament to submit the right to inquiry and from different factions. Nevertheless, Luluk emphasized that to ensure that the proposed right of inquiry is supported by a majority vote, his party needs to carry out careful calculations.

“Whether we like it or not, we have to calculate carefully, ascertain who the majority power is that is part of this proposed right of inquiry,” he explained.

Because this idea was first put forward by the PDI Perjuangan, Luluk said that the party chaired by Megawati Soekarnoputri was expected to be the leader in realizing the right to inquiry. Moreover, PDI Perjuangan is the party determined by the KPU as the winner of the 2024 Legislative Election.
