With campaign air in the White House

WASHINGTON (EFE).— Thousands of children visited the White House yesterday to participate in the traditional Easter egg race, which this year was held seven months before the elections and with the popularity of the president of the United States, Joe Biden, by soil.

In a tradition that dates back to 1878, the Bidens opened the official residence to some 40,000 people, including parents and children, who entered the White House to participate in different recreational activities in the gardens of the residence, despite the persistent rain of yesterday in the American capital.

“We hope that this year we will have the largest event in the history of this celebration,” Biden said in a brief public intervention he made from the balcony overlooking the south garden of the presidential residence, where children’s activities were set up.

Minutes later, the president and the first lady, Jill Biden, went down to the gardens and spent a few minutes talking with some of the attendees and playing with the children.

Biden himself, 81, helped several children in egg races, in which the little ones have to use wooden spoons to roll colored eggs to a finish line.

In the brief speech from the balcony, Biden said he has never been “more optimistic” regarding today’s America. “We have enormous opportunities,” said the president, with seven months left until the presidential elections on November 5, in which he will seek re-election.

Jill Biden, whose presence in the campaign is increasing since her popularity is much greater than that of the president, also offered a speech in which she spoke regarding education, the theme chosen for the celebration.
