A case far from solved. A political issue on which the left is playing a lot. In a region and a city governed by what, at least on paper, should be the elite of the progressive ruling class. The Bari affair is far from being concluded. As reported by the newspaper La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, there would have been a very heated confrontation between the mayor Antonio Decaro and the Apulian governor Michele Emiliano.
On Saturday followingnoon the two would have crossed swords in the headquarters of the Bari Democratic Party, during a meeting called to discuss the primaries in the Apulian municipalities. A few minutes were enough and then the two would attack each other. Using few caveats. In the presence of at least eighty people, the two chosen ones would have beaten each other. “Antonio remembers badly, I remember very well”, Michele Emiliano would have stated, reiterating that that meeting at Emanuela Capriati’s house, known to everyone in the old city as “aunt Lina”, actually took place. “No but you don’t remember well, you’re confusing two different moments”, Antonio Decaro would have replied, visibly irritated. What, at the beginning, seemed to be little more than a joke, exploded into a rather piqued ping-pong concluded with a clear “don’t speak anymore”.
A climate which, as expected, inflamed the entire local Democratic Party. Secretary Elly Schlein will arrive in the Apulian capital on Friday. There are many issues to resolve, first of all understanding how to move on a case that risks overwhelming the Democrats. And not just the Bari area.
