Three-time world champion Max Verstappen admits he is happy to be in Formula 1 even though he does not rule out the possibility of leaving in 2028. This Dutch racer won the first two grands prix this season.
He hinted in Saudi Arabia last month that he would consider leaving if the team parted ways with his long-term mentor, Helmut Marko. This followed a statement by his father, Jos, who said that Red Bull would fall apart if team boss, Christian Horner, remained in his position.
Responding to this, Verstappen admitted that he was still happy at Red Bull. But the 26-year-old racer is not too sure when talking regarding his future following leaving Red Bull.
“I’m very happy with my current position, and we want to maintain it. I have a contract with Red Bull until ’28. After that, I want to see if I still want to continue,” said Verstappen.
“For me, that’s the most important thing, not where. Things like this I don’t think too much regarding at the moment,” he added.
Ahead of the Japanese GP, Verstappen said he had no concerns regarding his car at Suzuka. He has won in the last two years and won his second world title in 2022.

“If you look at the performance in Melbourne, I think we were quite fast. We didn’t finish the race so it wasn’t ideal, but our car likes high-speed corners so hopefully we can show that once more this weekend,” said Verstappen.
Verstappen performed very well at Suzuka last year, being fastest in all three practice sessions and taking pole position. He went fast in the race, finishing almost 20 seconds from McLaren’s second-placed Lando Norris.
Verstappen also admitted that the Japanese circuit is one of his favorite circuits. “It’s quite intimidating the first time you ride it. Even in the wet, because it’s so narrow, if you make the slightest mistake, you can slide into the grass or gravel. That just adds a bit of fear,” he concluded. (AFP/Z-2)
