Middle East OBSERVER Smith Al Hadar assesses the draft resolution calling for an arms embargo on Israel, arguing the risk of genocide is reasonable, legal and legitimate.

“The proposal is legal, legal and reasonable because the consistent supply of weapons from Western countries to Israel has led to Israel’s tough attitude to continue the war by destroying everything in Gaza, especially committing genocide or killing innocent Palestinians,” said Smith when contacted by Media Indonesia Friday (5/4).

According to him, currently no less than 33 thousand civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, have been deliberately killed by Israel.

“So Israel has violated the Genocide Convention, the Laws of War and Humanitarian Law,” he said.

Even though this UNSC instrument will be effective in forcing Israel to accept a ceasefire, Israel’s main ally, the US, will not agree and will veto it.

“We know that a few days ago, President Joe Biden signed Israel’s request for US$2.5 billion in US arms assistance on top of US$3.8 billion in annual military aid,” he stressed.

However, there are positive developments regarding the Gaza war. Smith continued, that Biden has pressured Netanyahu to carry out an immediate ceasefire, conduct an immediate investigation into the attack on the World Central Kitchen humanitarian aid agency, and stop the killing of civilians.

“At the same time Biden sent high-ranking officials to Cairo to launch Hamas-Israel negotiations with Egypt, Qatar and the US as intermediaries. I think we will get good news regarding the war in the near future, namely that the war will end soon without Israel achieving its war goals, namely eradicating Hamas,” he concluded. (Fer/Z-7)
