Indonesian LIFTER Rizki Juniansyah secured a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics following winning a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championships in Phuket, Thailand.
Reporting from the official IWF website, Thursday (4/4), Rizki, who dropped in the 73 kg number, managed to achieve a total lift of 365 kg, beating China’s top lifter, Shi Zhiyong, who won a silver medal with a total lift of 356 kg.
Under Olympic regulations, each country can only send one athlete in one weightlifting event. Systematically, Rizki secured an automatic ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics representing Indonesia because he beat his compatriot, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, who finished third with a total lift of 355 kg.
“Indeed, if we look at the athletes, we already have four who have qualified for the same two events. So because of the new Olympic regulations for the same event, we can only send one athlete,” said PABSI General Chair Rosan Roeslani, March 26.
“But there are still other potential athletes (in numbers) who can compete in the Olympics. Hopefully we can achieve maximum results in this Qualification,” he added.
At the World Championships, which is the final qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Rizki performed brilliantly by recording a snatch lift of 164 kg, a clean & jerk lift of 201 kg.
