A majority-owned consortium between British cruise port operator Global Ports Holding Plc – GPH (51%), local shareholder, Steya (40%) and Spain’s Ocean Infrastructures Management (9%) has been granted bidder status privileged for a 15-year concession agreement with the National Ports Agency (ANP), for the operation of the new Casablanca cruise terminal. “The consortium and the ANP will now endeavor to agree on the terms of the concession agreement,” GPH announces in a press release.

The cruise port facilities, located on the Moulay Youssef jetty of the port of Casablanca, have recently been the subject of a 60 million euro investment in the infrastructure of the Casablanca cruise port.

This investment, led by the ANP, included the construction of a new cruise pier, a cruise terminal and a maritime terminal to international standards, significantly increasing the capacity of the port.

Jet Contractors took care of the exterior fittings, as we previously reported.

The Mazars Audit et Conseil firm was recruited by the ANP to define an operating regime and a business model for the new terminal.

The Catalan company Adelte, world leader in airport and port structures, was responsible for installing two glass port boarding bridges. Furthermore, the two telescopic footbridges were built by a consortium made up of Eurogrues Maroc and Adelte Ports & Maritime. A contract awarded, in 2019, for a budget of 57.4 MDH.

The port is now capable of handling ships up to 350m in length and has the cruise port infrastructure to accommodate 400,000 per year. The Casablanca cruise port is expected to accommodate around 150,000 transit passengers in 2024, and around 180,000 in 2025.

This project falls within the framework of the policy adopted for the promotion of the tourism sector in the city of Casablanca. It is the largest cruise terminal in the Kingdom.
