Following a request from the NOP to the Rowing Federation (EKOFNS), the Club’s sports delegation led by coach Anna Anastasiou and three athletes, Athena Xenaki, Maria Katsagani and Nefeli Stergiadis, was accommodated in the hostels and trained at the facilities of the National Rowing Track in Schinia, before since a few days.
The requested boats, one single and one double skiff, were made available to the NOP athletes for training, as they prepare for the Panhellenic Rowing Championship that will be held at the same venue on May 9-12.
This is a significant presence as for the first time the NOP (following the first decade of the championship, in the 30s) will take part in this year’s anniversary 90th Rowing Championship.
During their stay in Schinias, the members of the NOP mission had the opportunity to meet and discuss with athletes from the national team and associations of Athens who train there. Coach Anna Anastasiou discussed with the head Federal Coach Mr. Postiglione, who comes from Circolo Nautico Possilipo of Naples. Mr. Postiglione showed interest in learning regarding rowing in Patras and gave advice on its development.
After being informed regarding the Peiro Dam a few kilometers from Patras, he considers the lake an ideal place for classic rowing and despite its use as a water reservoir, experience from Europe shows that it can only be used with the presence of electric accompanying boats.
