Moscow. April 6. INTERFAX.RU – Next week the House of Representatives of the American Congress is scheduled to consider a bill regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the Axios portal reported.
Its consideration “threatens to once once more cause sharp divisions between the pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian factions of Democrats in the House of Representatives,” the publication notes.
The document cites a White House report of President Joe Biden’s phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying Biden “emphasized that an immediate ceasefire is necessary to stabilize and improve the humanitarian situation and protect innocent civilians.” .
In addition, it expresses disagreement with the UN Security Council resolution adopted in March on a ceasefire in Gaza. When voting on the resolution, the United States abstained rather than vetoed.
The three-page document, submitted by Republican Rep. Maria Salazar, condemns the president’s statement and the US refusal to veto the Security Council resolution as “an attempt to exert unilateral pressure on Israel regarding the Gaza Strip,” the portal writes.
According to Axios, the vote might take place “on Wednesday of next week or later.”
