“It hurts her.” This is the abrupt comment from a witness to the inauguration of the Olympic Aquatic Center (CAO), Thursday morning, in Saint-Denis, by Emmanuel Macron. Because according to our information, a water leak and infiltration affected the building during the visit of the Head of State, which had been planned for many weeks. A visit marked, upon his arrival on the site, by heavy rainfall, which notably caused the ceremonial reception to be moved inside the building, whereas it was initially planned outside.
The untimely flow was confirmed to us this Friday by the Métropole du Grand Paris (MGP), project manager of the CAO. “Due to the heavy rain, we noticed a water leak coming from a pipe which was blocked due to the work,” explains the Ile-de-France intermunicipality. The subject is already being resolved. »
Just one leak?
Problem: another version of the origin of this leak (or these leaks?) is also circulating in the corridors of the Greater Paris Metropolis. It would be linked to a defective seal on one of the photovoltaic panels placed on the roof of the building. In any case, the MGP had remained very discreet regarding this setback: a quick survey of personalities, involved in the organization of the Games and present on Thursday around Emmanuel Macron, showed that they had not not been informed of this incident.
Connected to the Stade de France by a footbridge which spans the A1, north of Paris, the Olympic Aquatic Center is one of the two sports facilities built for the JOPs, with the Arena Porte de la Chapelle. Built by Bouygues and carried out in close collaboration with Solideo (the delivery company for the Olympic works), the CAO incurred an additional cost of more than 80 million euros compared to the initial budget of the application file. The final bill for this infrastructure, financed by public funds, amounts to nearly €175 million.
During the Games (July 26-August 11), the OAC will host artistic swimming, diving and the preliminary phase of water polo. Thursday morning, another funny incident also took place during the presidential inauguration of this equipment, which will be part of the Olympic “legacy” in Seine-Saint-Denis. Alexis Jandard, a diver qualified for the Olympics, lost his balance and fell heavily during a collective demonstration, his knee giving way when he took support on the springboard.
