MINISTER of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi said that her party continues to update data regarding Taiwan’s earthquake victims. Currently, it is certain that no Indonesian citizens (WNI) have become victims.

“From time to time, through running text via Twitter, up to now there is no information regarding victims from Indonesian citizens,” said Retno at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Friday (5/4).

According to data from Taiwanese immigration authorities, the number of Indonesian citizens in Hualien is 3,343, the majority of whom are Indonesian Migrant Workers. The total number of Indonesian citizens in Taiwan is 284,751 people.

An earthquake measuring 6.3 magnitude struck off the coast of Taiwan on Monday 9 May 2022 followingnoon local time. The earthquake caused buildings in the capital Taipei to shake.

“The offshore earthquake struck just before 14:30 at a depth of 27 kilometers, regarding 70 kilometers southwest of Yonakuni, a Japanese island not far from Taiwan,” according to a report by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), as quoted by Channel News Asia. (Z-8)
