The Indonesian Rock Climbing FEDERATION (FPTI) relies on Indonesian rock climbing athletes competing in the men’s and women’s speed events to compete and win medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“From the ranking records and winnings in previous championships, athletes in the speed number are indeed more dominant and have the potential to win medals compared to the combined number,” said Secretary General of the FPTI Central Management Florenciano Hendricus Mutter when confirmed, Thursday (4/4).

Currently, FPTI has contributed two athletes who have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, namely male rock climbing athlete Rahmad Adi Mulyono and female rock climbing athlete Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi.

Both of them are Indonesia’s mainstay rock climbing athletes who compete in the speed event.

Floreciano said that the opportunity for more athletes to qualify for the Paris Olympics is still large in the speed and combined events because there are still championships for Olympic qualification that will be held in China and the United States (US).

However, he said, the number that is relied on to win a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics is the speed number because it has a record of winning achievements in previous championships.

“If our athletes dominate the speed number, they will always win, but for the combine we have never won,” he said.

Meanwhile, athletes have recorded achievements in speed numbers, such as Rahmad Adi Mulyono who won the 2023 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Asian Qualifier Rock Climbing Championship in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi is also the world champion in the Women’s Speed category following winning at the 2023 IFSC World Championships held in Switzerland.

Florenciano hopes that through the national training camp (pelatnas) which is currently underway, outstanding athletes will further finalize their preparations to perform optimally and win medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. (Ant/Z-1)
