On Tuesday morning, Belgorod was once more shelled. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that around 10:30 a.m. nine rockets fired from the RM-70 “Vampire” multiple rocket launch system were shot down over the Belgorod region.

Three people were injured in the attack, including a child whose arm was torn off, the Russia-linked Telegram channel Mash said.

The day before, the regional health protection minister Andrejus Ikonikovas said that from March 12 to 18 the shelling killed 11 people and injured 82 others.

Belgorod and the region are regularly shelled, but the attacks have intensified in the past week. March 17 two people, including a minor girl, were killed in the strikes.

March 16 the city was shelled twice, and on March 14 – three times.

Local residents are said to have started wearing bulletproof vests to go to shops.

Meanwhile, 600 residents of the Graivoron district have been moved to temporary accommodation centers, according to government reports. Governor V. Gladkov also decided to temporarily close schools and colleges in border municipalities.

The unrest in the Belgorod region and other areas on the border with Ukraine intensified on March 12, when Russian volunteers fighting on the side of Kyiv – the “Russian Freedom” Legion, the Russian Volunteer Corps and the “Siberian Battalion” – announced that they had invaded Russian territory.
