Kasselakis from Chania: “Let’s go build our house – In Crete some people say “shame” for the first openly gay politician – I will not apologize for my genes” 2024-04-05 06:11:34

“It is a great pleasure to be in my place of origin in Chania” said Mr. Kasselakis starting his speech. The SYRIZA president said he grew up in a poor family in Skane that belonged to the democratic faction.

Initially, in his speech, he referred to the economic sector, speaking of the need for zero VAT of 0% on basic goods and addressing the reduction of fuel tax. In addition, he referred to the tax system and the proposed scale presented by SYRIZA as well as the party’s proposals for supporting small businesses.

During his speech, Mr. Kasselakis urged: “Let’s go build our house, the fate of the Greeks is not a foregone conclusion.”

He then referred to security issues on the occasion of the latest femicide in Agios Anargyros, saying among other things that the leadership of ELAS should be chosen by the Parliament.

At the end of his speech, Mr. Kasselakis also spoke regarding the homophobic perceptions that still prevail in society, saying that even here in Crete there are some who are homophobic towards the first open same-sex marriage at this level and emphasized: “We are a European country, from in 1981. This is our benchmark, modern Europe and not the regression of the Right. The modern Europe of progress in all matters”.

For Mr. Kasselakis to add: “Today, if we are talking regarding genes, I went from the villages to the monument where my great-grandfather was killed by the Germans. Both my uncle and great-grandfather were killed by the Germans. I will never apologize for my genes!”

Stefanos Kasselakis concluded: “For what they say regarding my personal life, we all have personal lives, equality is for everyone. And the equality that is missing is for a child born with no money to be able to dream and excel. Ask your own child and the country you think they deserve. On June 8, Greek men and women will be dazzled, because the truth fears nothing.”

Then the candidates in Chania who will claim a place on the SYRIZA European ballot paper were presented.
