A concert by a young jazz orchestra, thirty people, from Germany, will take place on Sunday, April 7 at 19:00, at the Cultural Center of Aegis “Alekos Megaris”.

The Youth Jazz Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia (JJO NRW), is one of the best in Europe and has existed since 1975. North Rhine-Westphalia was the first federal state to establish and promote a state youth jazz orchestra with the support of the then of its prime minister, Johannes Rau. It was established to provide appropriate support to young artists in the jazz field.

JJO NRW has made a great contribution as a mediator of North Rhine-Westphalia’s cultural and youth work at home and abroad. Previous trips have taken place in, among others, Belarus, the former Soviet Union, Turkey, India, China and Korea, Africa, North, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

For many of its members it serves as a springboard to become a jazz musician. So far, over 600 young people have taken part in the orchestra. Over a third of them are now professionally active in music.

The repertoire of JJO NRW is determined both by the jazz tradition and by contemporary trends. It mainly includes compositions and arrangements of the leaders, which are adapted to the line-up and abilities of the band. 13 record productions testify to a wide range of activities and a continuous presence on the local and national jazz scene.

Candidates can qualify for the orchestra through the state competition “Jugend jazzt” or through auditions. The band usually gathers three times a year for week-long work sessions where new members are added and new arrangements are developed. During these rehearsal weeks, the management team is usually supplemented by well-known jazz teachers, who were often members of the ensemble.

Free entrance! Information on tel. 6972263356 and on the website: www.idillion.eu in Program 2024.

The event is held under the auspices of the Municipality of Aegialia and the Deputy Mayor of Culture and Sports and in collaboration with the Educational and Cultural Center “Hellenic Idyllion” in Selianitika.
