PECATUR from Central Kalimantan, Yoseph Theolifus Taher, succeeded in becoming the champion of the 2024 PB Percasi Ramadhan Cup open category. He won the title following winning over Aditya Bagus Arfan in the 9th round which took place on Sunday (31/3).
The open category was the most exciting in the Ramadhan Cup this time because Yoseph and his opponent both got 7.5 points in the 9th round. In four tie-break rounds, Yoseph was finally able to lock the title following collecting 6.25 points more than Aditya.
“The points I got until the end were only seven and a half and I am grateful to be in first place,” said Yoseph, who holds the title of International Master.
Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of PB Percasi GM Utut Adianto congratulated the winners. He also reminded that the Ramadhan Cup is not only a place to strengthen ties.
“The Ramadan Cup is also a place to hone the achievements of national chess players. Because it is not easy to get and develop human resources,” he said.
Chairman of the Ramadhan Cup committee, Rikardo, hopes that the forerunners of great Indonesian chess players will emerge from the competition which has been held since Saturday (30/3).

Rikardo also said that chess players must prepare for a number of PB Percasi tournaments in the next calendar year.
