Israel’s defense minister will visit Washington next week

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office also said a delegation would visit Washington “at the request of US President Joe Biden” to discuss the planned attack, which the United States opposes.

Netanyahu’s office last week approved a plan for a military operation in Rafah, where many residents of the war-ravaged Gaza Strip have taken refuge.

It is the last major population center that has not been subject to a ground attack since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.

The deadliest war ever in Gaza began following Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on October 7 that killed around 1,160 people, mostly civilians, in Israel, according to an AFP assessment based on official Israeli figures.

Hamas also took regarding 250 hostages, of which Israel knows regarding 130 are still in the Gaza Strip, including 33 dead hostages.

After vowing to destroy Hamas, Israel launched a massive military offensive that killed at least 31,819 people, mostly women and children, in the besieged enclave, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.
