“Grey’s Anatomy” gets a 21st season

As several industry portals reported, the show was extended for a 21st season on the US channel “ABC”. The series, which started in 2005, is the longest-running medical drama in television history. In 2019 it overtook the series “Emergency Room”.

“The loyalty and love of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans has catapulted us into a historic 21st season, and I mightn’t be more grateful,” series creator and producer Shonda Rhimes was quoted as saying. The new season will consist of 18 episodes.

In the 19th season, which, like previous seasons, can be streamed on Disney+, a new era began in the series: actress Ellen Pompeo (54) took a step back from the project and her character Meredith Gray said goodbye to the hospital in Seattle. Until then, she was the face of the series. Many characters have left or died on Grey’s Anatomy over the years. Actor Patrick Dempsey (58), for example – he played Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, Meredith’s partner. In the 20th season, which started in March in the USA, a new group of assistant doctors should be introduced – Pompeo should also be seen, according to “The Hollywood Reporter”.
