A new photovoltaic park located in the city of Morón, Ciego de Ávila, is regarding to complete its installation. As soon as its start-up is completed, it will provide energy to the National Electric System (SEN), in the midst of a generation crisis that the country is currently suffering.
According to Prensa Latina, the unit will have a capacity of 4 MW and is now more than 90% complete. This week it is planned to work on the assembly of the transformer, according to the director of the electrical company in Ciego de Ávila, Luis Alberto Hernández.
The panels that will be used are part of a donation from China to the Island. This is the fourth installation of its type in that central province of the country. The objective is to change, step by step, Cuba’s energy matrix.
With help from Spain
Spain will also lend a hand to build a solar park in Cuba, its government announced in mid-March. The aid is part of the European Union’s (EU) Global Gateway strategy.
The EFE news agency revealed that the Spanish embassy in Havana “has committed to supporting the energy transition through renewable energies.” The media itself offered coverage of the visit of a community delegation to hold some meetings on this and other topics of mutual interest.
By the way, both the EU and Spain and France revealed their willingness to work together. It is estimated that they will mobilize new forces in Cuba’s electrical energy sector.
The scope of this project was revealed by the authorities of the Ciego de Ávila Electric Company. After its installation, some 8,500 homes will receive energy thanks to the project.
The savings would be around 84 million euros. The idea is that it replaces 168 thousand tons of fuel and at the same time avoids the emission of 721 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Global Gateway promotes smart, clean and secure links across various sectors. For example, the digital, energy and transportation areas are included. It also strengthens health, education and research systems around the world, according to the EU.
