DIRECTOR of Food Distribution and Reserves, National Food Agency (Bapanas) Rachmi Widiriani explained that for commodities other than rice such as chilies, meat and onions which have a short shelf life, efforts are being made to extend them by providing 30 cold storage units.

“For these variable commodities, the shelf life is short, so Bapanas has now installed 30 tools to extend the shelf life for shallots, chilies and to extend the shelf life of meat, so there are Air Blast Freezers (ABF) and currently only 30 cold storage units. the real point,” said Rachmi in an online press conference, Monday (1/4).

At these 30 points, the community can obtain these variable commodities at the first price because they are managed by the first actors upstream so they are expected to become hubs for food distribution in the surrounding area.

Then Bapanas guarantees that food availability is even and not concentrated in one point. Distribution activities include distribution facilitation at the food agency and also in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation to optimize the use of sea highways since 2023 so that the location or position of food items is evenly distributed.

“Then the second is that there is cooperation between regions, so in Bapanas there is also a forum for the heads of provincial, district/city departments to inform which regions have less production. So this can be anticipated immediately,” he said.

For areas where producer products go to consumer areas using distribution facilities, Bapanas has a budget to help facilitate distribution so that it is hoped that distribution can be evenly distributed.

“Apart from that, Bulog, with all its warehouses throughout Indonesia, is also maximizing rice stocks, so rice stocks are evenly distributed throughout Bulog’s warehouses,” he concluded. (Iam/Z-7)
