Alex Reed of the program Elina Egle, Chairman of the Latvian Business Union, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Federation of Security and Defense Industry, expressed a desire for a broader discussion of the question of why children start drinking alcohol so early?
She notes that everyone was young and crazy, going through a stage where they wanted to try, but when do the limits of addiction begin? “At what point do we enter these zones of dependence and how do families, how do parents generally cope with this problem? This topic of addiction is very deep and it’s difficult for me to say whether a ban can solve it. The more you prohibit something – a person, an animal – the more interested he is in what you prohibit.”
Elina Egle argues that it is now difficult to judge what the consequences of the ban will be. We must not forget regarding drugs.
“The misfortune is not only in the use of alcohol, there is also a misfortune with the use of drugs and their quantity, in the way they are used.”
She points out that much of the responsibility in these matters lies primarily with the family, and asks rhetorically: “How can there be cooperation among all parties involved so that young people do not make these choices?”
