In an interview with the German newspaper Welt, Fedorov said that during recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries, drones with a range of 700 to 1 thousand kilometers were used, Ukrayinska Pravda reports.
“But now there are models that can fly more than 1 thousand kilometers,” the minister noted (quoted by the Ukrinform agency).
Fedorov also said that Ukrainian industry has increased the production of drones tenfold compared to last year and can exceed the target set by the authorities to send a million such devices to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The minister clarified that this applies to drones of various types, including FPV (that is, controlled using virtual reality glasses), reconnaissance, transport, combat, kamikaze, naval and others.
The head of the Ukrainian department also spoke regarding the development of drones that can unite in flocks and operate using artificial intelligence. According to his forecasts, the first prototypes of drones with artificial intelligence may appear on the battlefield before the end of 2024, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda.
In February and March, the Ukrainian military carried out numerous attacks on Russian oil refineries. Judging by the footage published by Russian media, aircraft-type drones were used for this.
Western military experts wrote that the massive use of drones in 2023 has significantly changed the situation on the battlefield and made it much more difficult to concentrate equipment and personnel to organize an offensive.
At the same time, experts noted that Russia was able to establish mass production of combat drones, and Ukraine began to lag behind it in this regard.
