Forbes found only one billionaire in the Baltic countries. Although there are two of them

At number 1496 on the Forbes list is the only Estonian billionaire – Kristo Käärmann. He is a co-owner of the British international transfer service Wise and was included in the Forbes list back in 2021 – following his company entered the London Stock Exchange.

43-year-old Käärmann, according to the ranking compilers, has a fortune of $2.2 billion. A year ago, his fortune was estimated at $1.3 billion.

Formally, there is also a billionaire in the Baltic countries – a citizen of the Republic of Latvia, Petrs Avens, also known as Peter Aven.

In the current Forbes ranking, the fortune of 69-year-old Aven is estimated at 4.3 billion US dollars. With this money, she is ranked 745th richest person in the world.

Despite having a Latvian passport and living in exile, Forbes identified Peter Aven as a Russian billionaire.

At the top of the list, for the second year in a row, Bernard Arnault, president and CEO of the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy group, became the world’s richest billionaire. Over the course of a year, he became richer by 22 billion and now his fortune is estimated at 233 billion US dollars.

As last year, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, who led the ranking in 2022, and the head of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, who until 2022 led the ranking of the richest for four years in a row, competed for 2nd and 3rd place. Just like last year, Musk has surpassed Bezos: he earned 1 billion more and now his assets are estimated at 195 billion US dollars.
