If the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric took its first walkregarding at the Geneva Motor Show last February, its cousin Alpine A290 will opt for a setting more in keeping with its sportiness. It will be unveiled as part of the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Alpine has just announced the date of the reveal of the production version of the A290. This world premiere will indeed be held next Thursday, June 13 in the setting of the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans in which the Renault group’s sports brand participates every year.eThe Alpine A290_β Showcar unveiled in May 2023.© François Lemaur

Alpine’s “Renault 5” will then abandon the guise of the A290_β showcar presented in May 2023 to put on its production dress. The difference will not be the greatest on the outside where, apart from a few aerodynamic appendages that have been slightly planed to comply with traffic standards on public roads, little will have changed. Just like the diameter of the rims which will increase from 20 to 19 inches, the wheels will be fitted with specific tires designed by the French manufacturer Michelin.ageThe three-seater cabin of the Showcar the Alpine A290_β.© Alpine

But it is on board that the transformation will be most convincing since the concept car offered a three-seater triangle layout with the driver placed in a forward central position.. A provision that the Alpine A290 will not take up and for good reason, its furniture will be largely shared with that of the Renaut 5 E-Tech Electric. The Alpine A290 will thus be the very first 5-seater vehicle from the brand with the A arrow.

Designed on the so-called AmpR Small technical base of the R5 – which is none other than an evolution of the CMF-B EV -, the Alpine A290 will house its electrical mechanism under its front hood and will be of traction architecture.

The technical sheet announces a length slightly greater than the Renault matrix (3.99 m for the A290 compared to 3.92 m for the R5), a wheelbase of 2.53 m for a width of 1.82 and a height of 1.53 m. In terms of engine, it will be a loan from the 100% electric big sister Renault Mégane E-Tech which has 220 hp, a mechanism which also serves the Renault Scénic. For the record, the Renault 5 which will arrive in dealerships in October will offer the choice between electric machines of 95, 120 and 150 hp. The Alpine A290 announces a range of around 400 km.

The Alpine A290 will arrive in dealerships at the end of 2024. From 2025 onwards, it will find a good number of sports cars on its way. Starting with the Cupra Raval, in other words the production version of the Cupra Urban Rebel concept, the 218-strong Mini Cooper SE while waiting for an electric Mini JCW, the Volkswagen ID.2 GTI, without forgetting the Lancia Ypsillon HF which promises to already 240 hp under its hood. But the Alpine A290 might also gain momentum with a strong 270 hp variant which might take the name Alpine A290 S.
