IN order to enliven the celebration of #NationalFilmDay2024 which falls today, March 30 2024, the Executive Board of the Indonesian Film Artists Association ’56 (PARFI’56) chaired by Macella Zalianty S.Sos. MH launched a theme entitled “#ResilientActorIndustryGrows”.
“On March 30 every year, Indonesia celebrates National Film Day (HFN), where in 2024 the theme launched by PARFI’56 on #NationalFilmDay2024 itself is entitled ‘Resilient Actors, Growing Industry’,” emphasized Marcella Zalianty.
National Film Day was established in an effort to increase the self-confidence and motivation of Indonesian filmmakers and to increase achievements that can elevate the status of Indonesian films regionally, nationally and internationally. Since then, every March 30th has been celebrated as National Film Day. The determination of March 30 as National Film Day was based on Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 25 of 1999. Because on March 30 1950, for the first time, a film was produced by an Indonesian company and directed by an Indonesian, H. Usmar Ismail.
In the Presidential Decree signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie (BJ Habibie) on March 29 1999, it was stated that March 30 was designated as National Film Day. And National Film Day is not a national holiday.
This celebration is often filled with various activities, including screenings of classic Indonesian films. There are also panel discussions with famous filmmakers, giving awards to film professionals. As well as various other activities aimed at promoting the national film industry. Also appreciate his contribution to Indonesian culture.
PARFI’56 (Indonesian Film Actors Association 1956) held a series of events with the theme “Tough Actors, Growing Industry”. The PARFI’56 National Film Day event will be held this Saturday (30/3/2024). This event is located at Pita Mezzanine Floor, Sequis Center, Jl. General Sudirman No. 71, Jakarta. The activity will start from 10.30 WIB until finished.

Starting with a visit from the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, Sandiaga Uno, which was continued by officially opening a series of activities such as a panel discussion with the topic “Good Story, Great Actors”, ‘The Essence of Indonesian Film Success’ by presenting Indonesian actors and filmmakers. Such as: Prilly Latuconsina, Rano Karno, Chelsea Islan, Hanung Bramantyo, and others; screening of thriller films that will be shown and watching together the film RECTOVERSO, the first film in Indonesia directed by all the actors as well as the 1980 Indonesian film “Cintaku di Rumah Susun” and collectable actor items (preloved), namely auctions of items favorites that have been used in filming by actors
PARFI’56 General Chair Marcella Zalianty expressed her hopes for National Film Day. He hopes that Indonesian films will continue to grow, not only in number but also in quality, along with the number of viewers recorded in 2022, the total audience of Indonesian films in cinemas will reach 54,073,776 people. “Increasing the number and quality of national film production will certainly be able to seize larger niche opportunities in the domestic, Asian and even global markets, as can be seen from achieving around 61% of the market share of film viewers in Indonesia, surpassing the market share of imported films which only gets around “only 39% in 2022. The Indonesian film industry must be able to compete with the giants of the Asian film industry and in the future, Indonesian films will not only be loved by the nation’s children. But they will also become a medium for cultural diplomacy known outside Indonesia,” he said.
Every time a film is produced, there are so many film people involved, from cameramen, lighting directors, artistic directors, music directors, scriptwriters, directors and producers. What is no less important is the cast, namely actors and actresses. They are artistic workers who risk all their abilities and professionalism to produce quality films that are worthy of being watched by the public.

“It’s possible that an Indonesian film might one day be nominated for an Oscar. Thank God it can win,” he concluded.
The celebration of National Film Day is an important moment for the Indonesian film community. Primarily to unite and celebrate the diversity and cultural richness produced by the national film industry.
What PARFI’56 is doing in celebrating National Film Day 2024 is a positive step to place successful Indonesian films and host them in their own country.
