Steam Hardware & Software Survey: NVIDIA Dominates Graphics Cards, AMD RDNA 3 Holds Ground, and Windows Operating System Reigns Supreme

There may seem to be some changes between February and March, but in fact the changes are not as big as imagined.

Entering April, we can review the hardware & software survey results updated every month on the Steam game platform to understand the computer hardware and software currently used on the Steam game platform.

It is no surprise that NVIDIA occupies the top 10 positions in graphics cards. As in the review in March, the top graphics card is still NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, and there is a big gap with the second-placed GeForce RTX 2060; yes, GeForce GTX The position of 1650 was lowered by GeForce RTX 2060 in March, but the gap between the two is not too big, only 0.04%.

The top 10 list of Steam game platform graphics cards in March 2024 (data from February is included):

1. GeForce RTX 3060 – 6.71%(6.00%);

3. GeForce GTX 1650 – 3.95% (4.11%);

We can see that the GeForce RTX 4060 and GeForce RTX 4070 of the Ada Lovelace GPU architecture have entered the top 10 list of graphics cards for the first time, and the rest of the GeForce RTX 40 series of NVIDIA Ada Lovelace GPU architecture are ranked as follows (the data inside is February):

2. GeForce RTX 4070 – 2.42%(2.10%);
3. GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop – 2.28%(2.51%);

Users of the entire GeForce RTX 40 series GPU account for 13.25% of Steam gaming platform players.

As for the AMD RDNA 3 GPU architecture, the highest ranking is still Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which has slightly increased by 0.01% from March data, and is used by regarding 0.35% of Steam game platform players; the same as the data provided by Steam game platform in March. AMD RDNA 3 GPU architecture is the only product on the list.

Independent graphics cards based on the Intel Alchemist GPU architecture still do not appear in the graphics card rankings of the Steam game platform. The highest ranking in the Intel segment is Intel Iris Xe Graphics, with a share of 1.85%, an increase of 0.04% compared with February. AMD Radeon Graphics’ data remained at 1.91% in March 2024, but it still leads Intel Iris Xe Graphics.

The proportions of AMD, Intel and NVIDIA are respectively (data shown in February):

1. NVIDIA – 78.00%(76.92%);
2. AMD – 14.64%(15.09%);
3. Intel – 7.24%(7.59%);

In terms of VRAM, the largest volume is 8GB (35.17%), followed by 6GB (14.76%), 12GB (18.32%) and 4GB (8.21%). In principle, there is no change from the ranking announced in March.

In terms of processor brands, the proportions of Intel and AMD were 68.07% and 31.93% respectively. If compared with the data in February, AMD fell once more by 0.99%. The majority of Steam game platform players still use 6 cores, and the top 3 are ranked:

1. 6 Core – 34.81% (34.12%);
2. 4 cores – 19.93% (20.49%);
3. 8 Core – 19.82% (20.15%);

Nearly half of the computer hardware players on the Steam gaming platform chose the 16GB configuration, but compared with February, the decline was 1.34%, followed by 32GB and 8GB players, with proportions of 29.29% and 11.74% respectively.

1920 x 1080 resolution is still the largest, accounting for 58.45%, followed by 2560 x 1440 (19.86%); as for the 4K resolution part, in the March 2024 statistics, there are 3.44% of Steam game platform players use.

On the Steam gaming platform, the Windows operating system is the largest, with 96.67% of players using the Windows operating system. Among them, Windows 10 is the largest with 54.40%, followed by Windows 11 at 41.61%.
