VSD agreed to declassify part of the information submitted to the Seimas commission by R. Bridikis

“Taking into account the request of the temporary investigation commission of the Seimas to declassify the information provided by the deputy director of the VSD R. Bridikis during the interrogation, it was decided that part of the information does not constitute a service or state secret,” the service informed BNS on Friday.

According to her, the Seimas commission investigating the history of the so-called VSD reporter did not ask to declassify the information provided during the interrogation of VSD director Darius Jauniškis.

Both D. Jauniškis and R. Bridikis testified to the temporary commission of investigation of the Seimas in both open and closed meetings.

The parliamentary commission of inquiry, which is investigating the information of former VSD official Tomas Gailius regarding possible violations in 2018-2019, when checking the supporters and people from the environment of the then presidential candidate Gitanas Nausėdas, asked the VSD to declassify some information.

The chairman of the commission, Vytautas Bakas, has said that a request will be made to declassify the testimonies given by the head of the VSD, D. Jauniškis, his deputy, R. Bridikis, and the spokesperson of the VSD, T. Gailius, at the commission’s closed meetings.

According to V. Bak, these testimonies are important for the public interest.

The temporary investigation commission was established by the Seimas last November. She has to finish the work next week.

The parliamentarians are investigating possible illegal influence on intelligence activities, possible interference in election processes during the 2019 presidential elections, possible illegal support for this campaign, possible violations of whistleblower’s rights, possible illegal influence in imposing sanctions on Belarus.

VSD reporter T. Gailius told the commission that he suspected that his managers might have committed a disciplinary violation or even a crime when they commissioned an inspection of G. Nausėda’s environment and possibly passed the inspection results on to third parties who do not have the right to work with classified information. That’s why T. Gailius said that he turned to politicians and became a speaker.
