The modernization of the fishing sector continues with the implementation of several innovative projects. The latest is the digitalization of the marketing of fishing products. Indeed, the ONP is looking into the deployment of “new generation” equipment in its fish markets. This system would make it possible to optimize the auction process to ensure better reliability.
Morocco, through the extent of its coastline (3,500 km) and the diversity of its marine resources, has real potential for fisheries production. Every year, the sector develops with the implementation of new projects. In this sense, the ONP wants to digitalize the marketing of fishing products. This involves setting up equipment for the digitalization of the auction at the ONP fish markets located in Inouare, Amtar, Chmaala, Oued Laou, Martil, Fnideq, Belyounech, Dalia, Moulay Bouselham, Salé, Skhirat, Bouznika, Lahdida, Sidi Abed, Bhibeh, Imourane, Taghazout, Gourresim, Ain Baida, and Lamhiriz. This project also concerns industrial fish approval counters (CAPI) which are located in Safi, Essaouira, Agadir, Sidi Ifni, Tan Tan, Tarfaya, Laayoune, Boujdour and Dakhla. The Office is therefore planning to equip itself with new, more efficient equipment to ensure weighing and digital sales operations. Responsible for implementing programs to promote and modernize the coastal and artisanal fishing fleet, the ONP also promotes internal consumption of maritime fishing products and organizes fish wholesale markets in accordance with standards guaranteeing the safety and quality of products. It must be said that the Office is involved in all aspects of value creation in the sector, from the landing of fishing products to their marketing. As explained by the ONP, the said project is part of the modernization of services provided to professionals in the sector. The objective is to improve the marketing process in order to contribute to the valorization of fishery products. This project, according to the Office, also aims to modernize and optimize the auction process to allow better reliability and speed of commercial transactions and offer fishmongers a user-friendly working tool to facilitate their participation in the auction while guaranteeing anonymity. “It will have a positive impact on the marketing process by promoting the optimization of the valorization of catches and the improvement of the transparency, reliability and speed of commercial transactions,” indicates the ONP.
4.0 equipment
The equipment necessary for the implementation of this project to digitalize the auction of fishing products must be efficient to withstand the conditions of the fish market environment. Indeed, this space is characterized by a high level of humidity, high salinity and exposure to temperature variations. It must also be equipped with protection once morest electrical overloads and direct and indirect contacts to avoid the risk of electrification. Among this equipment, the ONP provides mobile carts. This moving device must support the load and be resistant to the marine environment. It is equipped with a power supply and computer network extension adapted to the mobile position of the trolley at the sales area. Likewise, the height of the trolley must allow mobility of the equipment through the entrance and exit doors of the fish markets. As for on-board equipment, they include an industrial tablet, a display solution, a thermal printer, an inverter and a wifi router. Thus, the industrial tablet is equipped with a 10-inch touch input screen coupled with a touch screen and a central unit which supports USB ports. Concerning the display solution, it is composed of a new generation display screen of unit size (65 inches), industrial and equipped with a management unit which supports the wifi connection and compatible with Android.
Note that the ONP is developing new generation halls to meet quality standards and the needs of a modern organization for the marketing of seafood products. These infrastructures are subject to temperature control in the sales areas or even the computerization of all marketing processes. They are operational for example in Nador, Tangier, Larache, Mohammedia, El Jadida, Safi, Agadir, Laâyoune, Boujdour and Tan Tan. Their implementation is based on the introduction of the concept of a technical platform for integrated management of products, from unloading to leaving the fishing port, the separation of flows of fishing products and people, respect for the principle of moving forward, maintaining the ambient temperature (12°C) in sales areas or even the computerization of commercial transactions and auctions as a prelude to the introduction of e-commerce and distance selling. The establishment of these new generation halls aims to preserve the quality of the products passing through these spaces and optimize their valorization, manage the marketing of seafood products in a rigorous and transparent manner and increase awareness among professionals regarding respecting quality standards. According to the Office’s statistics, the volume of marketing of fishing products by region reached 943,732 tonnes in 2023 in the South Atlantic, 202,907 tonnes in the Central Atlantic, 174,034 tonnes in the North Atlantic and 29,517 in the Mediterranean.
