According to the data published by the Statistical Authority of Greece, the volume of sales in the country’s retail trade fell by 8.9% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding month of 2023.
This drop is due to a downward trend recorded in all individual store categories.
ELSTAT’s data on retail trade
In particular, the turnover decreased in: Department stores (21.3%), Furniture- Electrical goods- Household equipment (11.3%), Pharmaceuticals- Cosmetics (7.3%), Large food stores (6.7%), Clothing -Footwear (6.5%), Books-Stationery-Other (5.1%), Food-Beverages-Tobacco (4.5%) and Car fuels and lubricants (0.2%).
As announced by ELSTAT, the general volume index (turnover at constant prices) showed a decrease of 8.9% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding index in January 2023, while compared to the corresponding index in December 2023 it decreased by 22.4%. The seasonally adjusted general index showed a decrease of 5.8% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding index in December 2023.
At the same time, according to iefimerida, the general turnover index (turnover at current prices) showed a decrease of 2.3% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding index of January 2023, while compared to the corresponding index of December 2023 it decreased 24.1%. The seasonally adjusted general index showed a decrease of 5.3% in January 2024 compared to the corresponding index in December 2023.
