Shoe trends come and go, but mules have been making a regular appearance for several years now – both on the world’s catwalks as well as in pedestrian zones, offices and on the beach. This spring they are appearing in new versions as real street style stars, which we are seeing more and more often on men’s feet. We have the most important tips on the trend.
Heels free for the big entrance
There are plenty of open shoes, but mules occupy a very special place among the airy footwear. It is determined exactly which part of the feet is exposed – namely the heel. The toes remain covered. We can easily slip into mules, don’t sweat as quickly, and yet our feet are more covered than with sandals or peep-toes. This makes mules the perfect footwear for spring. Mules are also extremely comfortable. This convenience cannot be seen, but does not have to be apparent. There are great mules for a casual or cool look, but also particularly chic models that can be worn to the office or to the next evening event.
By the way: In 2017, the mules were named shoe of the year by fashion magazine Elle. At that time they experienced their big comeback on the catwalks of fashion shows.
Mules are versatile shoes that go with many different looks and can be used to skillfully set accents. Mules can be combined with trousers, jeans, shorts, a skirt or a dress as desired.
More than a slipper
“Mule” is actually nothing more than the French word for slipper. But what modern mules have in common with slippers is their comfortable fit and pleasant wearing comfort. This season the designers were particularly creative to make the mules interesting. We reveal the most important trends of the year.
Even Cowgirls get the Mules
Cowboy boots were the hot boot trend in autumn and winter. Anyone who doesn’t want to part with western style even in spring will be happy to hear that the designers have come up with something very special: cowboy mules. The trendsetters are characterized by pointed or square toe caps and colors and patterns inspired by the western look, such as a snakeskin look. Of course, the slanted heel that is so typical of cowboy shoes should not be missing from the cowboy mules.
Mules in white and beige
While cowboy mules can be a real statement, simple mules in white, cream and beige provide a fashionable contrast. Light mules can be easily combined and go well with both delicate spring dresses and jeans. They always look elegant in light colors.
Clog-Clog – Who’s knocking?
Ms. Antje from Holland isn’t the only one whose hearts are warming over the trend that’s currently knocking on the doors of fashion lovers and clattering across the sidewalks. Clogs are in high season this spring. In addition to the classic clogs with wooden soles and leather, models made of rubber are extremely popular.
High up
Even though the classic mule is a flat shoe, there are numerous models with heels in a variety of heights. Block heel, high heel, kitten heel, wedge heel or platform sole – mules are aiming high this season. They conjure up a slim foot with curved heels and cute kitten heels. Mules with wedge heels look very summery. In this design they also promise a firm stand and a comfortable fit. They look great when we stroll along the beach promenade in combination with a flowy dress. Mules with platform soles, on the other hand, ensure a cool look and are suitable for your next city trip.
Loafers at the front, free at the back
They are actually less of a trend and more of a classic mule: the loafer mules. The Gucci model is almost iconic. Loafer mules are characterized by a classic design and can be perfectly combined with a trouser suit or an elegant pencil skirt. In this version, the mules are definitely suitable for the office.
Bright colors are in trend
The feet can be the focus this season with bright colors. Mules in eye-catching pink are particularly popular this spring. If the shoes have a striking color, they are best combined with a monochrome look in more subtle tones.
