DRC: Judith Suminwa Tuluka appointed to the post of Prime Minister

Félix Tshisekedi has appointed a woman as Prime Minister in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the person of Judith Suminwa Tuluka. She has been Minister of Planning in the Sama Lukonde 2 government for a year.

Before being Minister of Planning, Ms. Tuluka, who is a member of the UDPS, was a national expert in a community support project in the east of the country. She then worked in the office of the Ministry of the Budget before becoming deputy coordinator of the Presidential Strategic Monitoring Council (CPVS).

Judith Suminwa Tuluka is the first woman to serve as Prime Minister in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She will have to compose her government with the different political forces members of the Sacred Union, the coalition formed around the Head of State and which has a majority in the National Assembly. The government led by Ms. Tuluka is eagerly awaited given the multiple challenges facing the country at this precise time when large areas in the territories of Rutshuru, Nyiragongo and Masisi are occupied by the M23 rebels supported by the Rwandan army. Another important project that the next government will face is above all the socio-economic situation of the Congolese marked in particular by the loss of purchasing power following the depreciation of the national currency, the Congolese Franc.
