The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has been asked to curb illegal housing on the embankments. This must be done to prevent the embankment from breaking, as happened in the Hek River, Kramat Jati area, East Jakarta.
“The breached Hek Embankment must be checked, are there illegal residences along the embankment? Because the embankment is not designed to bear the load of buildings. Action must also be taken. I think all embankments in Jakarta must be evaluated,” said DKI Jakarta DPRD Commission D member Justin Justin. Adrian through a written statement, Sunday (31/3).
He said that many illegal residences standing on embankments caused mud sedimentation to increase. It greatly affects the strength of the embankment. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is having difficulty dredging because it is blocked by buildings.
“Our micro network or sewer has bad sedimentation. When we wanted to do the dredging, it turned out that many residents had already built castings on it,” said Justin.
The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) politician emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government must make big policies regarding spatial planning for flood control. Including, action must be taken once morest unauthorized buildings.
“So all of the buildings do not have a permit. Those who live on the riverbank without permission must be disciplined,” he said.
Previously, the Hek River embankment in the Kramat Jati area, East Jakarta, collapsed on Monday, March 25 2024. The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said the cause of the embankment breach was high water discharge. (Z-11)
