A heavy metal insider tip returns successfully once more: Burn Down Eden rely on Melodic Death Metal, which avoids Scheme F as much as possible. Here, among other things, technical expertise and nasty thrash riffing are involved, operating between brute force and anthemic intensity. For their latest caper, they wrote songs that can be roughly divided into two categories: dark and intense as well as bombastic and euphoric. Without further ado, the upcoming album was split into two EPs, with „Dismal“ is dedicated to the darker side.
Five thunderous, sometimes brutal tracks show the German neighbors in impressive form. For example, “Death Of A Songbird” hits the ground running from the first second and dismantles everything that stands in its way. High tempo, subliminal melodies and rough dulcimer action live out unfiltered, entertaining destructiveness. A short, powerful solo skilfully rounds off the proceedings. The sprint of “The War Within” is also exciting, as it builds in anthemic grace as the game progresses, without letting up for a second. Grueling heaviness, almost catchy intensity and a hint of the original Gothenburg soup come together – incredibly spectacular.
“Aim For The Stars” might be the motto for this record, although it is in attack mode. Here the initial singing guitars hide an angry neck strike, which overtakes itself with increasing enthusiasm and surprises with a fine pinch of groove in the middle – a short, yet gripping moment. “Reap The Apocalypse” also loves to move forward, but also loves its melodic broadsides, its well-dosed heaviness and other little tricks that seem to torpedo all the senses at the same time. And then there’s “Blood Splattered Symphony”, comparatively short and painful – a breathless hell ride that burns in from the first second.
Really good music from the first to the last second, sometimes that’s all you need: Burn Down Eden continue to think regarding Melodic Death Metal with growing enthusiasm, freeing the genre from mustiness and clichés, and setting a powerful scent with their dark, brash approach. Of course, “Dismal” consciously focuses on the raw, rough side of the band, but it also knows how to entertain. Five powerful songs, entertaining and to the point, are already getting you excited for the slightly different sequel.
