Absent from the public sphere in recent years, Claudine Mercier spoke for a rare time, Sunday evening The true natureon her exit from the stage, but also on what she experienced behind the scenes during her years of glory.

“I was good, but it seems like I didn’t know it. […] I found myself not good all my life,” she notably admitted to Jean-Philippe Dion during her visit to The true natureshaken by viewing extracts from her third solo show, then at the top of her art.

Sacred revelation of the Just for Laughs festival in 1990, barely a year following leaving the School of Humor, Claudine Mercier quickly carved out a place of choice in the hearts of the Quebec public, selling more than 800,000 tickets in career.

“It started so quickly. The lack of experience, the lack of training, means that I have had this problem all the time… I go there, but I am afraid at the same time,” she admitted.

The comedian also explained, during the show, that her shyness, pressure, lack of self-confidence and the fact of having evolved in the shadow of Lise Dion, who shattered all sales records of tickets, contributed to his unhappiness within the industry.

“I find it valuable,” she said, remembering her great moments on stage with her today’s perspective.

At the release of her fifth and final solo show, Claudine Mercier felt that her career was fading. The fatigue and stress of the tour became increasingly difficult to bear, causing, among other things, significant hair loss.

“It’s good totch know how to renew yourself without displeasing your audience who have followed you from the beginning. The last show, I tried to find a new audience, but it wasn’t really me. […] By wanting to please everyone too much, that’s where you lose yourself,” recalled the impersonator.

Featured last summer in the play Silence is turned!Claudine Mercier also said she was torn between her desire to reconnect with her audience and the stress that the stage caused her.

“I find it really fun to have been invited here, but at the same time the stress of the image and all that, it’s like… no need for that either. But I’m still proud to have managed to do that,” she said.

The true nature is presented on TVA on Sundays at 9:30 p.m. and can be replayed at any time on TVA+.
