From today until April 5, the Police and Border Guard Board is waiting for everyone’s observations regarding places where drivers constantly exceed the speed limit. The marked places will be targeted by the police on 15-19. in April.
According to police lieutenant colonel Sirle Loigo, local people know and notice best where there are problem areas in traffic. For example, last year, the area of Luise, Koidu and Toompuiestee streets in Tallinn was most marked on the traffic map application. During the work, 14 traffic violations were recorded there. “That’s why we invite everyone to help us – report on the website as accurately as possible where and when drivers exceed the speed limit. Then we can be in the right place at the right time during the labor week,” said Loigo.
Traffic jams have become a kind of harbinger of spring, when the police focus following the long winter months on the most pressing problem in traffic, i.e. speeding. Although it is one of the main causes of road accidents, people do not consider speeding as a big sin. “Looking at the speeding behavior of motorists in traffic and remembering, for example, the highest speeds of drivers caught in last year’s traffic jams, I get goosebumps. You don’t even want to think regarding what will happen if you drive off the road or hit a pedestrian at such speeds,” added Loigo.
Comments can be entered into the map application until Friday, April 5. This year, the police will target the entered places between 15 and 19. in April.
Last year, the police checked more than 1,600 different places on the road and caught nearly 2,700 speeders.
