FRANCE denies sending ammunition to Israel to massacre Gaza residents. However, there is evidence that suggests the Marseille-based company Eurolinks sold M27 components to Israel.
The material in the form of pieces of metal is used to combine rifle cartridges into machine gun ammunition belts. This information is based on the results of the Disclose and Marsactu investigations.
“Such munitions might be used once morest civilians in the Gaza strip,” the agency claimed.
The results of the investigation are supported by photos taken on October 23, several weeks following Israel began its invasion of the Gaza Strip. But French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu said Eurolinks’ permission to export to Israeli company IMI Systems only covered exports to third countries and would not be used by its soldiers.
Left-wing groups are calling on France to follow Canada in halting all arms exports to Israel. MP Mathilde Panot, leader of the opposition France Unbowed (LFI) party, described the exports as a major scandal.
He accused Lecornu of lying in his rebuttal in a recent parliamentary session. Lecornu told the lower house’s defense committee that France’s policy regarding arms for Israel was not wrong.
Recent exports include weapons components such as ball bearings, glass, cooling systems and sensors. “In general, these are weapons that are planned to be re-exported from Israel to other customers,” he added.
Lecornu said he had ordered civil servants to be stricter in checking exports to Israel since October 7. But France issued a license for spare parts for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, he acknowledged. (AFP/Z-3)
