For several months, the Northern Lights have been observed in France. A phenomenon which will be more and more frequent this year and especially in 2025, even if they are impossible to predict.
When we think of the Northern Lights, we mainly think of the Nordic countries and the polar regions, but never of France. However, this phenomenon already appeared a few months ago, in certain places in France such as Pas-de-Calais, the Alps, Alsace, Auvergne and the Côte d’Azur.

Last week, on the night of Sunday March 24 to Monday March 25, the Northern Lights were predicted due to a solar flare. In the end, there was no but it was only postponed.
Indeed, the Northern Lights should arrive more and more often in France this year, as well as in 2025. Formed by solar flares, the phenomenon accompanies the solar cycle which is currently in a phase of very strong activity.

Unpredictable Northern Lights?
Thus, the next peak of solar activity should be recorded in July 2025, which will normally cause an increasing number of solar storms and opportunities to form aurora borealis between now and then. While waiting for its peak, the closer we get to it, the more the number of solar flares will increase.
On the other hand, it will be impossible to predict the appearance of an aurora borealis days in advance. You will have to be on the lookout because the signs of an aurora borealis are only perceptible two to three hours before the phenomenon.

In the process, the solar flare takes place one or two days before the aurora borealis. It is then only when the eruption is observed that we can predict its consequences and therefore a potential aurora borealis.
