Car comes off the road at the Tauern Tunnel

On the morning of Easter Sunday, the A10 was completely closed to traffic at the Tauerntunnel near the Tauernalm rest stop. After a head-on crash with four seriously injured people, two rescue helicopters landed on the highway.

Large-scale operation during a serious traffic accident on Easter Sunday on the Tauernautobahn (A10) in Flachau (Pongau) shortly following the Tauerntunnel in the direction of Salzburg. A Bulgarian (61) living in Munich drove his car off the right side of the road for an unknown reason, the Salzburg police said in the early followingnoon. The car drove along the highway embankment and crashed head-on into a culvert.

A10 closure following accident at Tauern Tunnel

After the fire brigade arrived, rescue efforts began immediately. The FF Flachau-Reitdorf opened the car with heavy hydraulic rescue equipment. The driver and his Bulgarian passengers – two women (61, 20) and a man (30) – suffered serious injuries in the traffic accident, according to the Red Cross. Two rescue helicopters and two rescue vehicles took them to various hospitals.

The Flachau fire department was on site with four vehicles and 29 emergency services, while the Red Cross was on duty with eight vehicles, four emergency doctors and 18 paramedics. The A10 was partially closed in both directions for almost two hours.
