Lajos Kossuth was a statesman who greatly contributed to the development of our country’s destiny. It was born in Monok in the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén counties, and the people living in the settlement will commemorate several anniversaries in 2024.
On April 14, 1849, Lajos Kossuth was elected as the ruling president in the Great Church of Debrecen, and this is commemorated on April 14 with a larger-scale program.
The other important year is 1894, because Lajos Kossuth died 130 years ago. Even then, the residents of his native village felt it was important to show their respect.
In the village, the birthplace of Lajos Kossuth was turned into a museum, where visitors can learn regarding the politician’s life. In addition to several original personal items, a chair that he used during his visits to Mór Jókai was also included. By the way, it is not unprecedented that we can meet Kossuth descendants in the settlement.
The people who live here want to make the greatness of Lajos Kossuth’s deeds known to as many people as possible, so that the knowledge can be preserved for posterity.
