The National Agricultural Society (SNA) expressed its solidarity with the wheat farmers, “who, for the second consecutive season, are having difficulties selling their crops. “The millers are paying national producers a price at least 10% lower than the import cost, which is not enough to cover production costs.”

He pointed to the world market, “which is causing wheat to be sold less and cheaper, generating an overstock. The problem is that this scenario finds producers in a vulnerable position, because they have not yet recovered from the impact of the increase in the value of inputs during 2022/2023.”

He added that, together with local unions, “we have been managing solutions for months. After timely alerting that there might be a drop in the internal price, even beyond what should be, we requested the activation of Cotrisa; “We met with the Minister of Agriculture and talked with the millers.”

He announced that they will meet once more with the unions “to work on four key aspects: financing, with rates in line with the reality of the sector; the timely activation of Cotrisa, with greater budgets and storage points; solutions for producers, which allow them to face the next season in a better way; coordination with the ministries of Agriculture and Finance and Corfo, and a greater and better relationship with the milling industrial sector.”
