Mexico is in the midst of forest fires from one end to the other. As informed by the National Forestry Commission (Conafor), there are 126 active fires across the country, which have so far destroyed more than 90,000 hectares of forest in 19 states.
Four people have lost their lives in the state of Mexico in the battles with the flames.
It is the most populous state in the country, adjacent to Mexico City, where the most active fire fronts have been recorded, 23 in total.
According to Conafor, dozens of aerial vehicles and more than 8,000 people have been thrown into the battle with the flames, which, among other things, have endangered 29 Protected Natural Areas.
The authorities’ suspicions regarding the barrage of fires are directed towards the large construction groups.
According to data from Mexico’s National Center for the Prevention of Natural Disasters, 90% of forest fires in the country are caused by human error or arson.
