Friends and colleagues report death of rapper Def Rhymz (53)

Several fellow rappers shared the news on Instagram on Sunday evening that rapper Def Rhymz has died at the age of 53. Dennis Bouman, Rhymz’s real name, first talked regarding his heart problems at the end of last year. His death has not been confirmed by his management.

The Surinamese-Dutch rapper mainly became known for his hits Doekoe in Shake (2001). Rhymz had had three heart surgeries in the past four years. A small motor then guaranteed blood circulation in his body. “If I don’t have this, I’m dead,” he said in the podcast at the time NandoLeaks by FunX DJ Fernando Halman. The DJ shares a photo of Rhymz Instagram. “Our last conversation was magical. So beautiful to share your legendary stories with people. You will never be forgotten,” he wrote.

“My brother, you have gone to rest. We will always love you man,” rapper and good friend U-Niq responds to the news. “Rest in peace,” writes record label TopNotch. “Rest in peace King,” said rapper Winne. Ronnie Flex and Frenna share a photo of Rhymz on Instagram.

In shock

Rapper Brainpower writes on X that he is “in shock”. “This one hits hard. Met you sometime in the early 90s. And later we met each other almost continuously for more than 25 years on the road and hung out regularly.”

“Rest in peace to this legend. This one hurts,” Akwasi wrote. Singer Dean Saunders writes: “RIP my friend Deff Rhymzzzzz”.
