BARESKRIM Polri uncovered cases of fraudulent sales of fuel oil (BBM) in several regions of Indonesia. In total there have been 17 cases of fuel misuse since January 2024, including rogue gas stations by modifying dispensers and mixing fuel with water.

“Since January until now there have been 17 cases, including this, of irregularities committed by gas station managers that have caused harm to the public,” said the Director of Certain Crimes (Dirtitipidter) at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Brigadier General Nunung Syaifudin, in a press conference at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, South Jakarta, Thursday, 28 March 2024

Nunung said that this fuel misuse involved gas station managers. There are dozens of people named as suspects in this case.

“This is from January 2024 with the number of suspects being 67,” said Nunung.

Nunung said that the fuel irregularities involved a number of suspects who were operators and gas station managers. However, he has not detailed the identities of each suspect.

“This starts from the operator, then the administrator, including the manager,” said the one-star general.

This fuel fraud has harmed consumers. The suspects were charged with Law (UU) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2021 concerning Oil and Natural Gas and Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection.
