France intends to provide 30 million euros to UNRWA in 2024

Paris – France announced its intention to provide 30 million euros to contribute to the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in 2024.

French Foreign Ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoine said during a press conference yesterday, Thursday, that France regrets the ban imposed by the Israeli authorities on the delivery of humanitarian aid provided by UNRWA to the northern Gaza Strip.

Le Moine pointed out the presence of civilians dying of hunger in the area, calling on the Israeli authorities to reconsider their decisions.

He stressed that UNRWA plays an important role for civilians in Gaza.

He called for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2728, which demands the removal of obstacles hindering humanitarian aid in the region.

Le Moine confirmed that France will contribute 30 million euros to UNRWA activities this year.

He pointed out that Paris will provide these contributions “while ensuring that the necessary conditions are met by UNRWA to carry out its duties in a spirit free from calls for hatred and violence.”

Since last January 26, 18 countries and the European Union have suspended their funding to UNRWA once morest the backdrop of Israeli allegations that a number of its employees participated in the attack last October 7, while the agency announced that it is investigating those allegations.

However, this March, some of these countries reviewed their decisions regarding UNRWA, as the European Commission said that it would release 50 million euros from the agency’s funding, while Sweden announced the resumption of funding by regarding 20 million dollars.

Australia, France, Germany and Canada also appealed, while London said it was in the process of evaluating a position to resume funding.
