Egypt – The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Britain, Sameh Shoukry and David Cameron, stressed yesterday, Wednesday, the necessity of implementing the UN Security Council resolution to cease fire in the Gaza Strip during the month of Ramadan.
This came during a phone call that Shoukry received from his British counterpart, according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The spokesman said that the two ministers stressed the necessity of ensuring the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2728, which called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during Ramadan, and the inevitability of building on it to reach a complete and sustainable ceasefire and end the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
On Monday evening, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the month of Ramadan, leading to a permanent and sustainable ceasefire, following 14 countries voted in favor of the resolution presented by 10 elected members of the Council, while the United States abstained from voting. .
He also called for the “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages,” as well as ensuring the arrival of humanitarian aid, medical and other humanitarian needs.
During the call, the Egyptian and British Foreign Ministers also discussed “ways of coordination between international and regional actors in order to end the war in the Gaza Strip and put an end to the worsening humanitarian catastrophe.”
In turn, Shukry stressed that Cairo is continuing its efforts at all levels to facilitate reaching an agreement to establish calm in Gaza, in order to achieve a permanent ceasefire in the Strip, in order to preserve the lives of Palestinian civilians, according to the same source.
He renewed “Egypt’s categorical rejection of any ground military operation in the Palestinian Rafah,” warning of its “grave” humanitarian repercussions and its effects on the stability of the region.
Shukri pointed out “the necessity of putting an end to Israeli policies and practices that aim to create an uninhabited reality in the Gaza Strip, including indiscriminate targeting, starvation, and collective punishment once morest Palestinian civilians.”
