Stage IV Colon Cancer Update: Treatment Over, 2-3 Months Left

Dealing with a terminal illness is undoubtedly an immense challenge. For the past three years, I have been fighting once morest Stage IV colon cancer, but unfortunately, it has now gained the upper hand. Exhausting all available options, my oncology team has informed me that I have only a few months left, perhaps up to six, depending on the source.

Despite the grim situation, I have managed to maintain a relatively pain-free existence, much to the surprise of my doctors. However, my body is showing signs of fatigue, and the tumors in my liver are causing complications with the bile ducts. Bilirubin, a compound filtered out by the liver, is accumulating in my bloodstream due to the blockage. Early signs of jaundice, such as a slight yellowing of the whites of my eyes, have begun to show. Additionally, the buildup of ammonia in bilirubin may lead to cognitive decline.

Yet, even in the face of these challenges, I remain determined and at peace with the inevitability of my condition. From the moment of my diagnosis, I made a conscious decision not to let cancer dictate my life. Despite undergoing surgeries and chemotherapy treatments, I managed to maintain a sense of normalcy and continued working for two and a half years. Although I wish I might have lived longer than 53 years, I am content with the positive impact I have had on the world during my time here.

On a brighter note, I want to express my gratitude to all the generous contributors to my GoFundMe campaign. Thanks to their support, I raised three times more than my original goal. With the funds, I have purchased books for an elementary school and will be distributing the remaining amount to three other school libraries, ensuring that students have access to enlarged and modernized collections.

For the time being, I will still be present on DKos, though the duration of my presence remains uncertain. This is not a signal of surrender, but rather an acknowledgment of the disadvantages I face. Underdogs are known to surprise, and I approach this battle with the same fighting spirit. As the soccer hooligans say, “Come and have a go, if you think you’re hard enough!”

Until next time, stay curious, folks.
