In the previous 24 hours, there was a lot of talk in Patras regarding the issue of how to broadcast it Patrinos Carnival from ERT, which this year preferred to broadcast only a few highlights and not a two-hour parade of carnivals, as was the case in previous years.
Regardless of the reasons for ERT’s decision, much has been heard and written regarding whether a two-hour parade is now an attractive television product to broadcast live.
THE “Peloponnese» gave a platform to three people in the artistic field who are indirectly involved with the carnival and asked for their opinion.
Does a carnival parade on modern television sell as a product? Is it now something too predictable, monotonous, boring? How might it become an attractive product once more?
These are the questions we asked the paternal director Panagiotis Fafoutis, the paternal actor and director, Dimitris Georgalas, the general director of the program Kostas Papavasileiou and the actress, designer and carnivalist Vasso Kalokairinou, who was also the presenter of the opening ceremony of this year’s Paternos Carnival.
Panagiotis Fafoutis: “Whether the parade is a tiring product I cannot know and it is subjective. What I do know, however, is that today people don’t watch television, very specific ones.
To me, it might become a more attractive television product in the following way. Along with the live broadcast of the Patrinos Carnival, regarding ten 3-minute videos might have been prepared which will show the back stage and the actions that have taken place before we get to the big parade.
Such as the opening ceremony, the search for the Hidden Treasure by the crew members and various others, which will be impressive. These videos can be shown during the parade so that it is not boring for the TV viewer.”
Dimitris Georgalas: “I see logically that ERT cannot present a parade for more than two hours directly because it is not a spectacle to see others dancing. Of course the tanks and the first groups that usually have an artistic style are interesting, but following 1.5-2 hours it starts to tire the viewer and is not that interesting.
For me, what would make it more attractive would be for the groups, when they approach Georgiou Square, to present something, an event that would be special for everyone.
Of course, I don’t know how feasible this is and how much time each group can spend during the parade, but it would be interesting for the TV viewer.”
Vasso Kalokairinou: “The long parade without any special spectacle is certainly tiresome to all but those who expect to see one of their own in the little glass with patience and impatience together. But in a broader set I have no clear idea how it might become attractive. The volume of carnival participants is large and difficult to manage.
Perhaps it might become more attractive if it offered more than running. I think that the first groups should necessarily all have a uniformity of movements in their first rows that are consistent with their theme. We have examples of such crews, truly exemplary.
Difficult for the flow of course, but for the representative to speak informing regarding the way of thinking and executing the uniform and the idea. But all these are theories that we know very well are difficult to implement in practice”.
