A majority of Americans now disapprove of the war Israel is waging in Gaza following the October 7 Hamas attacks. This is what a Gallup poll recorded, taken up by The Hill, which shows how the situation has changed compared to November when 50% of Americans supported the Israeli action, and 45% did not support it. Now 55% of those polled say they disapprove of the war, compared to just 36% who support it and 9% who say they have no opinion.
The poll confirms how the issue of the war in Gaza is very relevant in American domestic politics, especially in view of next November’s elections: if 64% of Republican voters – it was 71% in November – support the Israeli military operation in Gaza , only 18% of Democratic voters support her, a figure bound to be a source of concern for Joe Biden. And among Democrats, support for the war has halved from November to today, when it was at 36%. Even among independent voters there was a sharp decline in support for the war on Gaza, from 47% to 29%.
