Dozens of international shipping companies diverted their routes away from the Red Sea due to Houthi strikes on shipping lines in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the targeting of shipping traffic.

Among the companies that announced changing their route was the shipping giant Maersk, which completely diverted all of its ships to the Cape of Good Hope route, for security reasons following Houthi attacks on ships in Bab al-Mandab.

The Houthi attacks affected maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Red Sea lost its position in international navigation, which has a severe negative impact on the Islamic Port of Jeddah.

A timetable for Maersk showed that the container ships Maersk Genoa, Maersk Londrina, Iba Maersk and Gertrude Maersk, which had been anchored in the Red Sea south of the Saudi port of Jeddah in the past few days, changed their course on Thursday to pass through the Cape of Good Hope.

The cessation of navigation in the Red Sea would lead to the cessation of shipments coming from the Indian Ocean countries, East Asia, and China to the port of Jeddah, replacing it with Saudi ports on the Arabian Gulf or the port of Dubai, and then transporting it by land.
